BIOGRAPHY

Brian Vergara (1980, Panama ) is a renowned Panamanian visual artist whose career spans over 25 years. His body of work is celebrated for its versatility and recognizable visual language, deeply rooted in contemporary social and environmental concerns. His distinctive style—marked by refined chromatic synthesis—features recurring symbols such as colorful trees on dark backgrounds and origami figures, which act as emotional and symbolic bridges between the viewer and the artwork.

Vergara began his formal training at the Estelina Tejeira School of Fine Arts (2003) and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in visual arts (drawing and painting) from the University of Panama (2015). Over the years, he has developed a unique artistic voice, showcased in solo exhibitions such as “Mar y Tierra” (2009), “Origami” (2015), and “Sinergia” (2024), as well as in numerous group shows and international art fairs in Colombia, the United States, and El Salvador.

His work has earned multiple accolades, including first place in Panama’s prestigious “Roberto Lewis” National Visual Arts Competition (2011) and the title of “Artist of the Year” by the San Felipe Foundation (2017). That same year, he was awarded the “Panama en Positivo” prize for his cultural impact. In 2018, the Art in the Park Foundation honored him for his outstanding career and contributions to national cultural development.

Vergara’s work is included in major private and institutional collections in Panama, the United States, Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, and Spain. His paintings are part of collections held by institutions such as MAPFRE, Hospital del Niño, Bi Bank, and the Office of the Mayor of Panama City. He is represented in Panama by Galería Habitante and maintains international representation in El Salvador, Colombia, and Miami.

In addition to his exhibitions, Vergara is a frequent participant in charitable art auctions and has been featured in international art fairs including Artchico, Artconcept, and Barcú, as well as platforms like Art Miami and Red Dot. His research trips have taken him to iconic art centers such as the Louvre, the Vatican Museums, the Havana Biennial, and the Botero Museum.
