Maquiamelo (1972, Colombia) is an stablished contemporary artist, a self-taught sculptor and painter. His artwork is based on the color, the good energy and the japanese "Kawaii", he works mostly with special pigments as well as with oil on canvas. His artwork express the way he think we should see the world :with gratitude and love. He is a strong investment, because his career shows an artist that through the years has made the road growing and growing. He is what we call a complete artist creating paintings and sculptures thats goes hand by hand on the same language. BIOGRAPHY
Maquiamelo is a self-taught, colombian artist who has had solo shows at important international museums, including: Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogotá in Colombia; Museo de Las Américas in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho in Santiago , Chile; Pinacoteca Albertina in Turin, Italy and Museo de Arte Moderno de Cartagena. He has also joined six international biennials as well as important art fairs such JUSTMAD in Spain, ZONAMACO in Mexico and ARTMIAMI in the United States.
He had been painting since he was a teenager, studying with different masters as well as with schoolarships earned by pure talent. Through all those years he learned figurativism and also reinassence techniques that later on were exponentially taking his artwork to a higher level.
He has explored different phases in his artwork, starting form very young age with grand success with his drawings; then, creating a world of sculptures with shrinked heads that are part of different museums, and also gave him the first place on the Santa Cruz Biennial on 2014; and finally going back again to the oil on canvas, and using a secret formula with pigments to create the beautiful series that has gained the admiration of thousands of thousands of people.
He is been all over media and exposed to the press, and different curators all over the world have written about his artwork. He is been also published with the book: "The extreme art of Maquiamelo".
Since 2021 he decided to move again to the canvas and create his series "unconfined", "gratitude" and lately "animals" with grand success.
