BIOGRAPHY
Christian Fuchs (1979, Peru) is a visual artist and photographer whose work explores memory, ancestry, and identity through performance and staged portraiture. In his ongoing project Transgeneration, Fuchs transforms himself into historical relatives by means of costumes, props, and make-up, re-enacting family narratives that collapse the boundaries between past and present. His practice combines photography, drawing, and installation, weaving together elements of genealogy, mythology, and personal ritual. Fuchs’s work is defined by a radical gesture: transforming photography into a ritual of personal and collective reconstruction. Each of his images, charged with theatricality, invites us to rethink cultural inheritance, to engage in dialogue with the ghosts of history, and to question narratives of lineage, power, and belonging. In every self-portrait, Fuchs embodies multiple characters—symbols and archetypes that transcend the intimate and echo the universal.
Fuchs studied Photography at the Centro de la Imagen in Lima, after first training in Law and Political Science at the Universidad de Lima. He has been awarded the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2024) and the Premio Colección Studiolo at Estampa Art Fair in Madrid.
His work has been exhibited internationally, with solo shows at Centro Cultural Inca Garcilaso, Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores del Perú (2025), PJ Galerie (France), Espacio Valverde (Spain), and Yiwei Gallery (USA). He has also participated in major fairs such as ARCO Madrid, Estampa, Photo LA, and Pulse Miami.
His practice has been featured by outlets including Vanity Fair, BBC World, and ArtPress. Fuchs currently lives and works between Lima and Madrid.
